This week I made and painted up this minefield piece of terrain. It was a quick little project and it came out great! I was inspired by the section in the 4th edition Warhammer 40k rulebook about minefields, and I sized it appropriately for the rules.
I liked the warning sign so I thought of a way to make my own. I went for a skull marked barrel.
The minefield includes:
- One sheet of plasticard
- A third of a (very expired) milliput
- Sand + PVA glue
- One 1/35 scale barrel from Redoguk
- A resin cast alien skull from Zabavka Workshop (seemingly OOP now)
- Four Plus Model EL056 German antitank mines
- Grass Tufts
It was all leftovers from other projects so it was essentially free! The good thing about milliput is that it sets hard exactly as it was formed, as a result the base is perfectly flat with no warping at the edges. I've found that if you just apply sand and pva over a thin piece of plasticard or cardboard, it warps the base as the pva glue contracts a little while drying. The same can happen if you use paper mache as the main texture bulk, I had some homemade cardboard + paper mache craters fail as they all curled up!
