Squad: A maniple consists of one Techmarine and between one and four Battle Robots.

Options: The Techmarine may be equipped with appropriate equipment from the Space Marine Armoury (a Signum may be used to reroll a single Robot shooting roll per turn).

A Battle Robot has two arms, each of which can be equipped with one of the following weapons: boltgun at +2 pts; storm bolter at +5 pts; flamer at +6 pts; grenade launcher at +5 pts; heavy stubber at +10 pts; meltagun at +10 pts; plasma gun at +10 pts or an assault cannon at +20 pts.

An arm can alternatively be equipped with a close combat weapon. Each close combat weapon can only be used to make one attack. For example, to make two power fist attacks the Robot would need a pair of power fists. Close combat weapons can be chosen from the following list: power blade/lance/maul at +10 pts (+20 for pair); power fist at +25 pts (+30 for pair) or thunder hammer at +30 pts (+40 for pair).

A Battle Robot may also take one shoulder-mounted heavy weapon from the following list: heavy stubber at +10 pts; heavy bolter at +15 pts; heavy flamer at +15 pts; missile launcher at +20 pts; autocannon at +20 pts; lascannon at +35 pts; multi-melta at +35 pts or plasma cannon at +35 pts.

Heavy Support: A Battle Robot Maniple is a Heavy Support choice for a Space Marine army.

Special Rules

Automata

Battle Robots are mindless automatons bound to their Techmarine wardens. A Maniple of Battle Robots acts as a vehicle squadron, but the unit must stay within 2" coherency of the assigned Techmarine. The Techmarine always counts as an independent character. While led by a Techmarine, Robots have the same WS, BS and I as the Techmarine.

If the Techmarine is slain (or somehow gets lost!) and coherency is broken, Battle Robots are reduced to performing automated subroutines. Their BS, WS and I are returned back to their base values and every turn they must act according to one of the following routines that are programmed in at the start of the game:

Attack

The Battle Robot must move towards the closest enemy model in sight during each of your movement phases and charge in the assault phase if able. During the shooting phase the Robot must fire all of its weapons at the closest enemy model in sight if able. In the combat phase the Robot must attack the closest enemy model; if there are multiple models equally close the target is chosen at random.

Defend

The Battle Robot cannot move except to turn to face the closest enemy model. During the shooting phase the Robot must fire all of its weapons at the closest enemy model in sight if able. In the combat phase the Robot must attack the closest enemy model; if there are multiple models equally close the target is chosen at random.
